StoryWalk 2023

The My Happy Year StoryWalk is a bluebird’s charming narration of her first year of life including adventures, joys, and scary times too. We hope you’ll enjoy this story as you visit the Armstrong Farm at Long View Park.

My Happy Year by E. Bluebird

A beautiful view, fresh air, and a story to read along a trail – that’s what the StoryWalk
at Long View Park offers to families ready to combine a nature with learning and fun.

A StoryWalk is a deconstructed picture book, with each page posted along a trail.
Families enjoy a story while children and adults get fresh air and exercise. In addition to
reading the book page aloud, adults are encouraged to ask children questions and
suggest exercise activities. Prompt cards on each post offer ideas: “How many birds do
you see on this page? Count them out loud. Then flap your wings and fly to the next
page!”

RCS Community Library, New Baltimore Conservancy and Scenic Hudson have
partnered to bring families an opportunity to enjoy reading, hiking and the historic
Bronk-Armstrong Farm. Long View Park is located at 1886 River Road, West
Coxsackie, NY. The story is My Happy Year by E. Bluebird (Paul Meisel), and the walk
is less than a half mile each way.  When visitors are done reading, they can continue on
to a beautiful overlook of the Hudson River and opt to explore the hiking trails down to
the former ice house foundation and beach on the river shoreline.

StoryWalk is supported by funds from the New York State Library’s Family Literacy Library Services Program and by the Upper Hudson Library System.
