Go on a StoryWalk at Long View Park

A beautiful view, fresh air, and a story to read along a trail – that’s what the StoryWalk at Long View Park offers to families ready to combine a nature break with learning and fun.

A StoryWalk is a deconstructed picture book, with each page posted along a trail. Families enjoy a story while children and adults get fresh air and exercise. In addition to reading the book page aloud, adults are encouraged to ask children questions and suggest exercise activities. Prompt cards on each post offer ideas: “How many birds do you see on this page? Count them out loud. Then flap your wings and fly to the next page!”

RCS Community Library, New Baltimore Conservancy, and Scenic Hudson have partnered to bring families an opportunity to enjoy reading, hiking, and the historic Armstrong Farm. Long View Park is located at 1886 River Road, West Coxsackie, NY. The story is At the Marsh in the Meadow by Jeanie Mebane, and the walk is less than a half-mile each way.  When visitors are done reading, they can continue on to a beautiful overlook of the Hudson and opt to explore the hiking trails down to the shore.
