Mission
The New Baltimore Conservancy is a not-for-profit corporation dedicated to conserving and enhancing the natural, cultural and historic resources in and around New Baltimore NY.
Background
The New Baltimore Conservancy is a volunteer-driven nonprofit organization committed to preserving the natural beauty, historic character, and community spirit of New Baltimore, New York. Located along the Hudson River in southern Greene County, our work focuses on protecting open space, maintaining public trails, preserving historic resources, restoring habitats, and creating opportunities for residents and visitors to connect with nature and local history.
For decades, NBC has worked to ensure that forests, wetlands, scenic overlooks, streams, historic buildings, and public gathering spaces remain accessible and protected for future generations. Through partnerships with Scenic Hudson, Greene Land Trust, the Town of New Baltimore, and local volunteers, we manage and support conservation projects that enhance the quality of life throughout our region.
Whether you are hiking through Hannacroix Creek Preserve, exploring the Hudson River shoreline, attending a community event, or volunteering at Long View Park, you are helping preserve the unique landscape and heritage that make New Baltimore special.
The New Baltimore Conservancy was established as a 501(c)3 in 1999 but has existed as a community endeavor for over 30 years. We manage over 400 acres of properties owned by the New Baltimore Conservancy, Scenic Hudson Land Trust, and the Town of New Baltimore, designing and managing property trails with ongoing maintenance as well as larger-scale projects. Some of these projects include the creation of the world’s first recycled plastic bridge (completed in 2000), a scenic observation deck overlooking a tidal pond, barn and outbuilding restorations, and a boardwalk meandering through a marsh.
We sponsor informative trail and nature walks, clean-up days, Hudson River paddle events, and annual social events such as the Taste of History, Wine and Cheese on the Hudson River, Barn Party at Scenic Hudson’s Long View Park, and tours of historic homes where friends, neighbors, and guests gather. We support numerous local artists, community project grants, and historic commemorations. At our monthly meetings, we offer speakers and programs covering an array of topics.

Scholarship
People are our most important asset. In support of this asset and our purpose, the Conservancy has created a college scholarship to recognize past or planned public service demonstrated by a student residing in the area that attends one of several public school districts or a private school.
Each year one $1000 scholarship is granted to a high school senior or a full-time student enrolled in an accredited college or university, based on one or more of the following criteria:
- Community Service
- Major or Minor in Environmental Sciences, History, or Architecture
- Academic Achievement
- Volunteer Activity with the Conservancy
The scholarship application must be mailed by May 1st each year to The New Baltimore Conservancy, PO Box 322, New Baltimore, New York 12124.
The proceeds from one of our popular yearly events, Taste of History, are set aside to support the scholarship.
